Former policemen Derwin Eastman and Jamenson Williams, who are charged with the murder of businessman Godfrey Scipio, called ‘Sagga,’ have been accused of assaulting the main witness against them.
The assault allegation was made in court yesterday by Aubrey Bobb, who is also charged with Scipio’s murder.
While Eastman and Jamenson are jointly charged with the murder of Scipio, Bobb is charged separately. He is a witness for the state in the Preliminary Inquiry being conducted by Magistrate Fabayo Azore into the charge against Eastman and Williams.
The men are alleged to have murdered Scipio on October 12th, 2017, at Stanley Place and David Street, Kitty, in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
When the PI resumed yesterday, Bobb was due to be cross-examined by attorney Nigel Hughes, who represents Eastman.
However, before the matter recommenced, Police Prosecutor Dominic Bess informed the magistrate that Bobb wished to relay certain information to the court.
According to Bobb, he was placed into the chute leading to the court by an officer that he has had several disagreements with and he was left there. He went on to state that he was knocking for several minutes to get into the courtroom but the door was not opened. He added that several minutes later, the chute door below him was opened and both Eastman and Williams made their way up the stairs. It was at this time that he alleges that Williams head butted him and Eastman kicked him down the stairs.
Asked by the magistrate if the allegations against them were true, both Eastman and Williams stated no.
Bobb then questioned the court about the circumstances surrounding the incident since those persons in charge of the court lockup, according to him, are aware of the procedure that must be followed with this particular matter.
Magistrate Azore, in response, informed the court that she would have a word with the officer-in-charge of the court lockup, which she subsequently did.
The PI continued sometime after and Bobb was cross-examined by Hughes.
The matter is set for continuation today.
