The suspect in the violent assault of Palm Court patron Romario Baljeet has surrendered to the police in the company of his lawyer, Divisional Commander Marlon Chapman confirmed yesterday.
Providing an update on the investigation, Chapman said the suspect, Imran Khan, turned himself in and was in police custody assisting with the investigation. The commander did not provide any further information.
Baljeet, 21, called “Short Boss” of Eccles, East Bank Demerara, was brutally attacked by another patron of the Georgetown club as he was exiting in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
The victim, in a Facebook post that was widely circulated, claimed that his attacker beat him with a gun. In the post, he stated that the security at the nightspot did nothing to prevent the attack from occurring.
Baljeet claimed he was attacked after he walked through a group that comprised the attacker and his friends.
When Stabroek News sought a response from the nightspot yesterday, employees related that no one in authority was around to offer a comment.
Following the attack, Baljeet was rushed to a private city hospital for medical attention. At the hospital, he received stiches for a laceration to his face.
