The nation’s top three distance athletes swept the podium following the first leg of annual South American 10K Road Race in Suriname on Sunday.
This is according to President of the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG), Aubrey Hutson.
Hutson told Stabroek Sport yesterday that Cleveland ‘Little Kenyan’ Forde, Winston Missigher and Cleveland Thomas finished 1, 2, 3, two seconds apart in that order on the streets of Paramaribo to complete a clean sweep for the Golden Arrowhead.
Forde stopped the clock in 33m: 52s. Missigher, who upset Forde in the Courts 10k earlier this month, ended the event a second later while Thomas filled out the podium in 33m: 54s.
The action will switch to the streets of Georgetown on Sunday for the second leg while the athletes will take their talents to Panama next Sunday where the curtain will come down on the three-stage event.
Sunday’s race will start on CARIFESTA Avenue from 16:00 hours at the GT&T Earth Station. From there, the athletes will proceed onto the Rupert Craig High, make a U-turn at the University of Guyana junction, and will then head onto the Kitty Public Road, into Vlissingen Road, onto Thomas Lands and into the National Park for the finish.
