Just over two weeks after he and two others escaped from the Lusignan Prison, Dextroy Pollard was yesterday recaptured and turned over to police by a public-spirited citizen on the West Bank of Demerara.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) confirmed that Pollard, of Wales, West Bank Demerara, who fled while being held at a holding bay at the Lusignan Prison for the offence of break and enter and larceny, was handed over to the police sometime yesterday.
The man was reportedly recaptured at Free and Easy, on the West Bank of Demerara, by a public-spirited citizen and subsequently turned over to the police.
Additionally, the GPF said it wanted to publicly commend the citizen for his brave and courageous actions, which it called “testimony that the Force is gaining the public’s trust,” while encouraging others “to assist in the apprehension of those still at large.”
On October 15th, Pollard, along with Travis Evans of ‘C’ Field, Sophia and Sudesh Dyal of Wales Backdam, escaped the Lusignan Prison.
A manhunt by the police subsequently led to the recapture of Evans, who was caught by Joint Services ranks at the Soesdyke-Linden junction.
Evans, 23, was charged in August with the murder of Timehri youth Ronsley Clarke, who was fatally shot in Sophia.
Evans, who is known by the alias ‘Short Boss,’ is alleged to have shot Clarke, 21, of Fire Station Road, Timehri, in full view of his friends on August 2nd.
Dyal is still at large and the police are encouraging persons who have any information about his whereabouts that may lead to his arrest to make contact on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-8196, 225-2227, 227-1149, 226-7065, 911 or at the nearest police station.
