A businessman has been shot and killed on the compound of Anand Low Price Supermarket near the Mosquito Creek, South Oropouche.
Dead is Kadar Ali Mark, owner of Foreplay Hotel and Lounge, at Bertrand Street, San Fernando.
The deceased was also the owner of Kadar Enterprises.
A second businessman who was with Kadar at the time of the shooting escaped uninjured.
The shooting happened shortly before 4p.m. in the parking lot of the supermarket.
Witnesses said the two businessman were standing near a vehicle when a gunman walked up and began shooting at them.
Kadar was taken to hospital where died.
The motive for the killing was not immediately known. It is also not known if the murder was connected with the supermarket.
Four days ago, criminals shot and killed a security guard near the entrance of Anand Low Price Supermarket in Debe. A supermarket manager was also shot by the robbers who stole the payroll that evening.
The suspects were never caught.
MP Lackram Bodoe: A National Crisis
Member of Parliament for Fyzabad Dr Lackram Bodoe visited the murder scene and spoke with a “traumatised” owner of the supermarket Anand Ramnarinesingh.
He said “I just spoke with the owner of the business. It was confirmed that the person died. I want to express my condolences to the family. He (the victim) is a constituent of Fyzabad. And I remain very concerned about the high level, the increasing level of crime in the country”.
Bodoe said that within the past six weeks, it was the third person he knew who had been killed.
He said such killings raised the level of fear in the country.
“Again I call upon the Minister of National Security to provide whatever resources are necessary for the Commissioner of Police to get on top of this crime situation. I think the nation is facing a crisis. The authorities need to take control of an untenable situation that is worsening on a daily basis”.
