Dear Editor,
Amidst the jostling for voters by the PPP/C, AFC and APNU in Linden, residents have noticed some interesting developments whereby the AFC is claiming to be the change Linden needs.
The coalition government dominates the present council and I recently learnt that the AFC councillor Devin Sears was in charge of the communications committee, the Linden Town Week Committee and is part of several others while one Deryck Collins was in charge of Agriculture and was on the Environment Committee. The latter I understand has since stepped down and was replaced on the council by a female AFC councillor. I was able to get a few copies of statutory minutes of the council and recognized that the AFC councillors were party to many decisions of the council that were unfavourable or selective.
It seemed as though there was a gang in that council and the AFC councillors were part of it. Now at elections time, we see the AFC appearing in Linden as if they were never part of the municipality and are blaming the APNU for everything wrong under the sun. This is insincerity at the highest. The biggest scandals in the council during the last town week involved AFC members and a representative of a senior government Minister was at the centre. Further, we see their members on facebook bashing the government especially one Fredco, who has always been blaming the coalition which they are part of for everything. If a fresh cold pass around in Linden he will probably blame the APNU. He complained about the slowdown in business and yet when I visited his business place earlier this year it was in such a horrible condition I wondered if it was a solar or a fast food outlet.
The AFC Linden complained about lack of investments when their own Minister Gaskin is the Minister of Business. They are promising better roads etc., and I’m wondering where was Minister Patterson all this while. We saw reports in the press which stated that Minister Trotman had made some promises to Linden and Rockstone. I’m wondering if he fulfilled his promises. Agriculture is another sore issue where the AFC Minister has not done anything significant for Linden. The Infrastructure Minister at a forum with the First Lady and others in New York promised that Linden will have the Asphalt plant and roads will be done since 2017. Nothing much was delivered by the AFC Ministers and councillors.
I’m left to wonder if the lack of support to Linden by the AFC Ministers was intentional in order to make people blame the APNU for any dissatisfaction. Further I am wondering if this was a ploy to win over support in Linden from their own partner APNU. If this is the case then the AFC is being rather selfish and disingenuous. If that’s indeed a fact then all they are doing is opening doors for the dreadful PPP/C or for Lindeners to stay away from the polls. The only change Linden need is for the AFC Ministers to stop holding back and to deliver on promises and support the President’s vision for a good life for all including Lindeners.
Yours faithfully,
Garth Nelson
