Come see the top student-athletes and teachers of the 592 from the 15 districts compete in intense rivalries beginning from November 25.
A plethora of hardware and a year’s worth of bragging rights will be on the line when the 58th edition of the National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships is staged at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, the National Aquatic Centre and the National Park.
During the launch of the annual fixture yesterday at the Ministry of Education, the stakeholders stated that the main aim of this year is to make the staging of the event the most memorable and competitive one.
During an overview of the Championships, Mark Lyte, President of the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) stated that “I believe that we are in for a special treat.” Adding that “2018 we will be observing keen competition and I want us to work side by side to bring off the best edition of the Championships.”
Similar sentiments were also echoed by Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry, Marcel Hutson (Chief Education Officer) who also encouraged the athletes to be disciplined and do their best.
Director of Sport, Christopher Jones also stated that the National Sports Commission is excited to be a part of the hosting the event.
Banks DIH Limited has been sponsoring the championships since its inception and as Banks DIH’s Communication’s Manager Troy Peters pointed out “57 years is no small number and it wouldn’t be the end. We are excited to be sponsoring the championships again as it brings together the cream of the countries athletes.“
Peters reiterated that the conglomerate is “Proud to be part of the programme” which is a launching pad and talent spotting for athletes, adding that “We will continue.” Peters also highlighted that Banks DIH Limited will once again be hydrating athletes and officials with Malta Supreme and the Monde Selection award winning Rainforest Water.
The ’Nationals’ where stars are born will see in excess of 1500 competitors via for medals in the three disciplines.
