Some 19 doctors, representing just over a third of those attached to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, in Berbice, are presently on leave, prompting concerns by the Region Six administration about the impact on both the remaining staff and patients.

A hugely entertaining final day is anticipated as Guyana’s Indoor Hockey juggernauts all secured semi-final places in this year’s edition of the annual GTT National Indoor Hockey Championships, set for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), today.   In the men’s first division semis, Pepsi Hikers who topped the table by defeating Old Fort 5-4 in the final group match, will face Saints in the semi-finals while GCC will take on Old Fort in the other.   GCC, in their final group match, defeated Saints 4-1 with Kevin Spencer going past the upright twice for the winners, while Steven Xavier and Mark Sargeant scored the other two goals.

Persaud’s all-round brilliance leads GYO past DCC  

An exceptional all-round performance from Darshan Persaud led the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) to a surprise three-wicket win over defending champions, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the latest round of the 2018/19 New Building Society (NBS) second division forty overs tournament at DCC yesterday.   Persaud was instrumental with both bat and ball as he stroked a composed, unbeaten 41 and grabbed 3-18 to see his side past a usually dominant unit.   As the script went, GYO won the toss and invited the host to take first strike on a slow surface. 

Net-Rockers in 6th consecutive win

Unbeaten Net-Rockers secured their sixth consecutive win in the Upper Demerara Football Association [UDFA] Senior League, trouncing Blueberry Hill 7-1 on Friday, at the Mackenzie Sports Club [MSC] ground, Linden.

Dear Editor,   There is clearly panic aboard the City Hall ship, with the captain very frightened and dispensing blame to everyone and everywhere he can, both to the living and the dead, and it is now ‘every man for himself’ with senior officers grabbing every available life jacket and abandoning ship.
