A hugely entertaining final day is anticipated as Guyana’s Indoor Hockey juggernauts all secured semi-final places in this year’s edition of the annual GTT National Indoor Hockey Championships, set for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), today.
In the men’s first division semis, Pepsi Hikers who topped the table by defeating Old Fort 5-4 in the final group match, will face Saints in the semi-finals while GCC will take on Old Fort in the other.
GCC, in their final group match, defeated Saints 4-1 with Kevin Spencer going past the upright twice for the winners, while Steven Xavier and Mark Sargeant scored the other two goals.
Shakeem Fausette netted the consolation goal for Saints.
The women’s semi-final match-up will see the well-oiled GBTI GCC Tigers facing Old Fort 2.1.2 in the first of two semi-finals while Pepsi Hikers will do battle against the emerging GCC Bingo Spartans.
Tigers, who are the hot favourites at this moment, whipped Hikers 6-1 in their final group match to send a stern message to their other counterparts.
Sonia Jardine was once again among the goals after scoring twice while Dacia Woodroffe, Allyah Gordon, Gabriella Xavier and Shebiki Baptise scored the other goals.
Nicole Eastman recorded the lone strike for Hikers.
GCC Bingo Spartans, on the other hand, defeating Od Fort, 3-1 in their final group match of the championship. Goals for Spartans came off the sticks of Dominique de Groot, Kirsten Gomes and Abosaide Cadogan.
Akeaba Singh scored Old Fort’s lone goal.
Meanwhile, the results on the penultimate evening, which decided the second division semi-final placements saw Saints Silencers, defeating Hikers Young Gunz 6-2 in their male second division match with Seon Sookhail and Parmanand Dindial spearheading the win with hat-tricks each.
The other male second division match of the evening saw Hikers Cadets defeating Saint Sensations 2-1.
There were wins for Woodpecker Hikers, who defeated Old Fort Goal Chasers 3-2 as GBTI GCC Spice recorded a 3-2 over Saints in the women’s second division category.
GCC Vintage, on the other hand, continued their ominous form by hammering Old Fort Mustangs 10 – 4 on the back of four goals each from the inform Kevin Spencer and Philip Fernandes.
