Title contenders, Transport Sports Club (TSC), yesterday, began this season’s New Building Society (NBS) second division forty overs tournament in ominous fashion by brushing aside Sophia by nine wickets at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC).
TSC, after bundling out Sophia for 114, raced to 115 in 7.2 overs.
TSC got their response off to an ideal start after national under–19 batsman, Adrian Hinds eased seamer Malcolm Morris through the covers for four off the very first ball of the innings.
Hinds’ opening partner, Devon Nandan also got stuck into Morris, clipping him for a six as TSC collected 13 runs from the first over.
After a fairly quiet second over by off-spinner Dwayne Peters, Nandan continued to take a liking to Morris, launching him for 22 off the third over to carry the score to 48 – 0.
Morris, in the fifth over, got a measure of revenge when he removed Nandan (32) to leave the score on 62-1.
In came, Azim Azeez, who spared no one as he blasted two sixes and three fours in an unbeaten knock of 32 and shared in a swift 53-run stand with Hinds, who ended unbeaten on 27 as TSC reached to 115-1 7.2 overs to record a resounding win.
Earlier, TSC after winning the toss inserted Sophia and skittled them out for 114 in 17.4 overs.
Seamer, Akeem Redman (4-44) and off-spinner, Azim Azeez (4-3) shared eight wickets between them to account for Sophia’s demise.
Opener, Dwayne Peters was the only batsman to show any resistance, scoring 43 while Anand Persaud (19) and Zalim Rashid (22) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures for the battered Sophia.
