Three men hailing from West Coast Berbice, including an older man, his son and his nephew, were yesterday found not guilty of the offences of attempted murder and wounding with intent, following a jury trial.
The charges against Rajnarine Ishri, 48, his son, Kumar Ishri, 21 and nephew Sandeep Toolsie, 19, all of Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice, had alleged that they attempted to murder Henry Garrett, 28, of Number 23 Village, West Coast Berbice, in March, 2016. The three were also accused of having committed wounding with intent.
The Ishris were represented by attorney Tagenarine Ramroop, while Toolsie was represented by attorney Arud Gossai. The state’s case was presented by prosecutor Mandel Moore.
The men were accused of ambushing Garrett at a wedding house on March 12, 2016 and dealing him lashes about his body with palings until he became unconscious.
Garrett, during the trial, had claimed that he was beaten by the trio and that when he regained consciousness, he was in the hospital.
However, the accused had claimed that they were not responsible for the beating but rather, alleged that other persons who were present at the wedding house were responsible.
