National under-17 all-rounder, Dwain Dick bagged a six-wicket haul but Eco Champs were unable to overcome Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) as they fell to a 19-run defeat on Tuesday at the GNIC Ground, Woolford Avenue.
Playing in the Georgetown Cricket Association/Friends of Cricket Under-17 100 overs tournament, MYO won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 111 in 25.1 overs while limiting Eco Champs to 92 all out in 24.3 overs.
In humid conditions, Bryion Bowen rattled the two openers before off spinner Dick and left arm spinner Sameer Hussain got into the thick of things. Dick ripped through the tail and also removed Guyana under-15 captain, Zeynul Ramsammy for 32 with six boundaries.
Dick ended with 6-22 while Hussain claimed 2 for 32. Eco Champs suffered three dropped catches and a mis-stumping by stand-in wicket keeper, Mohammed Jameer. Bowen collected 2-17.
Tomani Caesar scored 15 and Marlon Boele added 12 as every batsman in the lower order stroked a boundary.
In reply, Eco Champs were up against the wall early on. They were reduced to 15-3 after Mitra Dhanraj and Jameer were back in the shed at the hands of Elnathan Suknandan.
Isiah Thorne removed danger-man Dick, who was given leg before wicket for just two runs and Daniel Roberts.
Bowen returned with the bat, to hammer three boundaries on his way to 16 but was undone by off spinner, Krsna Singh who rocked the lower order with three quick wickets.
There was a spirited effort from Keon Wright as he backed himself to clear, the boundary, on three occasions and was fortunate to be dropped at the long on boundary.
However, looking for another big shot, Wright was stumped for 16.
Joshua Thomas looked the most comfortable batting, picking up quick singles on his way to 15 before having his off stump uprooted in an attempted heave.
