After being apprehended by police for allegedly committing an armed robbery, suspect Charles Stoby was yesterday remanded on three charges.
In addition to armed robbery, Stoby, 30, was also charged with unlawful possession of a pistol and ammunition, which police say he had on his person when they arrested him.
The city court of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan heard that on November 5th, 2018, at Alexander Street, Kitty, Stoby had a 9 mm pistol in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence.
It is also alleged that on the same date at the same place, he had in his possession two 9 mm rounds.
The court also heard that on October 22nd, 2018, at Gordon Street, Kitty, while being armed with a gun, Noble robbed Kester Johnson of items valued $536,000 in total, including a $130,000 gold chain.
Stoby pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
The police prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offences and the use of a firearm in the robbery. It also noted that Stoby signed his name on a caution statement as “Anthony Nedd.”
Stoby was subsequently remanded until November 23rd, 2018, when his next hearing is scheduled.
Stoby was apprehended by the police on Monday morning and police said a search of his person uncovered the pistol and ammunition hidden in the crotch of his pants.
