Two days of supersonic racing starts today at the South Dakota Circuit with the much talked about Ignite Race meet.
Ignite, will feature drivers and riders competing in the final leg of the 2018 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) along with other events involving speedsters out of the United States and Europe.
Today, Time Trials for all classes begin at 10:00hrs followed by official races in the Street Cross Motorcycle, 125cc Motorcycle, Street Tuner, Choke Starlet Cup and Sports Tuner from 13:20hrs.
The feature race today will be the SR3 Radicals Caribbean Cup.
On the Regional scene, the Groups 2-4 action as well as the super stock, and the Radical Caribbean Cup are expected to feature over the two days of action.
The Group 4 battle will be one to watch this weekend with Mark Vieira leading countryman and GP4 AWD defending champion Andrew King (RX-7) and Quinian Lall (Mazda Miata) of Team CAMS third. These drivers will be joined by 2014 & ’15 champion Kristian Jeffrey.
Vieira was the highest points-scorer of the day at South Dakota last year; Mark Maloney won the opening race but failed to finish the second outing when his engine’s kill switch malfunctioned before finishing second in race three.
Leading the much buzzed about Radical Cup is Mark Maloney’s brother, Stuart of Barbados but he will face tough opposition from seasoned Guyanese campaigners Calvin Ming and Jeffrey who both missed the entire season campaigning on the North America and European circuits.
Organizers are promising that this weekend’s event will have all the colour and pomp we have come to expect over the years with plenty of entertainment for the whole family. The circuit is in perfect condition and fans should expect record setting times.
Tickets for the 27-race programme are on sale at the cost of $2500; children $1000 at B.M. Soat Auto Sales, Croal Street office.
Action starts tomorrow at 08:00hrs.
