As investigations continue into the alleged theft by members of the fire service from the Fly Jamaica plane that crash landed here on Friday,ย police will be seeking legal advice on the way forward, Crime Chief Lyndon Alves yesterday told Stabroek News.
Alves said that the men who were fingered in the theft remain in custody and based on legal advice obtained from the Police Legal Advisor they will be able to determine if the firefighters will face charges or not. The police will be seeking legal advice today.
The firemen are accused of removing personal items belonging to the crew and passengers of the Fly Jamaica aircraft that crash-landed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle yesterday told this newspaper that 12 members from the Guyana Fire Service were arrested by the police. Initial reports had stated that 14 firemen were arrested, however Gentle yesterday clarified that 12 members were arrested. After a report was made to the police on Friday morning of personal belongings missing, an investigation was launched. During that preliminary investigation, one officer came forward with some of the stolen items which prompted further investigations.
