In the finals of the seventh edition of the Courts Pee-Wee under-11 football, West Ruimveldt were dethroned by St. Pius 1-4 on Saturday at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
St. Pius were off from the get go and held the advantage throughout the match after Kaden Wellington scored from the left wing, hitting the top of the goal and skidding past the stretch of the goal keeper in the ninth minute. Donavan Welcome and Jeremiah Griffith extended that lead to 3-0 with goals in the 32nd and 34th minute respectively before heading into extra time where Myron Pedro scored West Ruimveldt’s lone goal before Wellington capped off a dominating performance with another goal.
Meanwhile in the third place playoff, Mocha went toe to toe with Tucville as the two played scoreless in full time with Tucville taking the honours with a 0-2 win on penalty.
After the contest ended, seven persons were awarded for the milestone, these included Oniesa Pitman (Redeemer), Andrea Ash (Enterprise), Royston Peters (Tucville), Whitland Fordyce (South Ruimveldt), Troy Wright (St Agnes), Aubrey McKenzie (North Georgetown) and Wayne Ritchie (St Pius)
Willington ended the tournament as the Most Valuable Player and leading the goal scoring charts with 15 goals while his team mate, Joshua Sharple was deemed the best goal keeper along with Ritchie who was considered the best coach. Justin Alcindor of St. Agnes finished with 14 goals and Lorenza Barker was crowned the most supporting parent. South Ruimveldt’s Royden Profit was awarded the best teacher while West Ruimveldt’s Shirwin Jaisingh was given the best supporting teacher award.
Meanwhile, John Harry of Tucville was adjudged the most promising player as Golden Grove were declared the most disciplined team. The standings in 1st-16th position are: St. Pius, West Ruimveldt, Tucville, Mocha, St. Agnes, North Georgetown, Golden Grove, St. Ambrose, South Ruimveldt, Mae’s, Enterprise, Marian Academy, Plaisance Boscos, Colaaco, Soesdyke and Timehri Primary.
