(Jamaica Observer) Vere Technical High School physical education teacher Sashauna Wellington was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She was released on bail on Tuesday.
She is scheduled to appear before the court on Friday, November 23.
Wellington is accused of beating Class Three 800m runner Moesha James with a “PVC” pipe on November 1, causing damage to her leg and arm.
When contacted by the Jamaica Observer, Wellington in a terse response said: “Sir it is what it is. Whatever you say or they say”. When asked again if that was her official response Wellington apparently had a memory lapse.
“I have no idea what you [are] talking about. I can’t recall. I don’t know what you [are] talking about. Moesha James is a student where? I don’t know what you [are] talking about. It is what it is, have a good evening,” said Wellington.
The Observer also contacted Vere Technical’s Principal, Antoinette Banton-Ellis, about the issue last week, but she had no idea what was happening at her school.
“I don’t know I will have to go and check it out and find out. I am not sure about any case in that matter sir, so I will have to do an investigation,” said Banton-Ellis.
The child has since been removed from Vere to Hydel High school.
