(Trinidad Express) Two men who admitted that they robbed a fast food outlet at gunpoint are expected to be sentenced in a week’s time.
Nicholas Francis, Avin Khan and Brent Lall were charged with robbery with aggravation and possession of a firearm.
Francis faced an additional charge of common assault.
The three appeared before Siparia magistrate Margaret Alert where Francis and Khan said they were guilty of the charges laid by constable Hansraj.
Police prosecutor Sgt Starr Jacob told the court that at 10.30 p.m on November 9 ,Francis, who was wearing a hoodie and a mask, entered the KFC outlet in Siparia. He jumped over the counter and pointed a gun at a female worker. Francis grabbed a safe which contained cash and escaped in a white Nissan AD Wagon which was driven by a man and in which Khan was in the back seat.
Police later stopped the vehicle in San Francique. Khan threw the safe on the ground, exited the vehicle and ran. He was held a short distance away. Francis and the other man remained in the car.
Francis and Khan later took officers to Thick Village, Siparia where an unloaded gun was recovered.
Alert told the pair that the offences were serious and they faced up to ten years in prison.
They were given a week to retain attorneys to mitigate on their behalf.
Francis who had three pending matters including for kidnapping and Khan were remanded into custody to return to court on November 20.
Lall who said he was not guilty of the offences, was placed on $750,000 bail and ordered to return to court on December 11.
