The Terrence Alli National Open Championships got off to an entertaining start last evening at the National Gymnasium.

Among the young and upcoming stars of the fistic sport, flyweights, Seon Griffith and Kevin Allicock arguably shone the brightest on the eight-fight card.

Griffith of the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) Gym used his superior reach and jabbed his way to a points win against Julius Kesney of the GDF.

Griffith had an offensive explosion in the first two rounds, counter punching the shorter Cheney who had his moments in the fight.

Kevin, the younger brother of standout boxer, Keevin Allicock, scored a unanimous decision victory against a game Kevin Isaacs also of the GDF.

It will be interesting to see who wins the matchup tonight or tomorrow involving Griffith and Allicock, both of the FYF Gym.

Kevin Allicock, the younger brother of standout boxer, Keevin Allicock (looking on), scored a unanimous decision victory against a game Kevin Isaacs of the GDF.

Meanwhile, in the fight dubbed Police versus Soldier, Kevin McKenzie (GDF) and Dewani Lampkin (Police) stood toe-to-toe and traded blows all over the ring.

In the end however, Lampkin was questionably able to get the judges’ nod in the punch-filled light welterweight contest.

Other fighters in the winner’s row included Colin Williams (junior 29kg), Kevon Mulling (62kg) and Quincy Boyce (69kg).

Boyce stopped his GDF gym mate, Royden Grant in the third and final round.

Also on the card last night, there were two exhibition fights.

The bouts involved GDF gym mates, Albert Thomas versus Anil Chaitraj and pugilists from the Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym, Richard Howard and Richard Subratee.

The three-night fixture continues tonight from 19:00hrs.
