(Trinidad Guardian) Police have arrested the imam of a Carapo mosque in connection with an alleged assault, kidnapping and robbery incident last week.
Central Division police said the imam was among seven people arrested Saturday night following a complaint made by the victim.
The man, a Princes Town resident, told police he went to the Carapo mosque last Wednesday morning to meet a man he knew. However, he alleged that when he finished meeting with the man and he left, two other men entered and assaulted him.
The men then allegedly beat him about the body, tied him up and took the keys to his car. He was allegedly blindfolded and bundled into another vehicle and later dropped off at the O’meara Industrial Estate, Arima.
The man subsequently made a report to police and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Central Division arrested the suspects during an anti-crime exercise in Carapo Saturday night. The victim’s car was also seized during the exercise.
The suspects will be placed on identification parades this week. More on this story as information comes to hand.
