Unbeaten Eagles set up a championship-deciding clash with fellow undefeated side Net-Rockers today following a narrow 3-2 victory over Amelia’s Ward Panthers on Friday in the Upper Demerara Football Association [UDFA] Senior League.
The match which brings the curtains down on the event was a seesaw battle. Quacey Quintin broke the deadlock for the free-scoring Eagles via a ninth-minute strike.
However, Kellon Neblett fashioned the equaliser in the 17th minute. Eagles then restored their lead in the 32nd minute, as Colwyn Drakes found the back of the net.
Nonetheless, Jevon LaFleur ensured that parity was restored to proceedings heading into the halftime interval through a 43rd minute attempt.
Deon Charter proved to be the difference on the night, recording the eventual game winner in the 56th minute.
With the win, Eagles will only require a draw against Net-Rockers in the final clash due to their superior goal differential as both teams are locked on 21 points.
Meanwhile, Botofago overcame Winners Connection 2-1 in the earlier clash. An Antwoine Gill double in the space of five minutes sealed the come-from-behind-win, after Errol Doris handed Winners Connection the lead in the 47th minute.
Gill levelled proceedings compliments of a 81st minute conversion. He then made his presence felt once more, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet with the go-ahead winner in the 86th minute.
