The curtain came down on the Terrence Alli National Open Championships last night after three nights of fistic fury in the National Gymnasium, with gyms and boxers from around the country vying for trophies and bragging rights.
When the dust settled, best boxer, Keevin Allicock, Desmond Amsterdam and Jamal Eastman were among the last men standing, blasting their way to TKO victories.
Eastman, disposed of Delroy Fordyce in the fastest bout of the evening, finishing off his over matched opponent within the first minute of the lightweight contest.
Also earning a first round stoppage was Allicock who cruised to his second TKO win versus Clairmont Gibson in their bantamweight trilogy. In a brutal, two-minute assault which left Gibson’s face a reddened mass, the Forgotten Youth Foundation standout marches on.
Such was the ferocity of Allicock’s two-fisted assault, referee Richard Braithwaite dived in to halt the contest, then peculiarly allowed it to continue, before moving in seconds later to jump between the piston fists of the Albouystown fighter and his under-fire opponent.
Amsterdam toyed with Dwayne July also of the GDF gym in the first round then was all business in the second. After three standing eight counts, the referee had seen enough and put an end to the middleweight bout.
Amsterdam along with his gym mates enabled the GDF gym to once again walk away with the Best Gym Trophy.
For their heroics with the gloves, the standout pugilists earned themselves spots on
the national team for next month’s Caribbean Championships.
