A belligerent display of dominance from the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) handed Malteenoes Sports Club a 388-run defeat in the Georgetown Cricket Association Friends of Cricket Under-17 tournament with Abdul Ramsammy smashing a century and Isiah Thorne taking six wickets on Saturday.
On their home turf, Anthony Williams and Tomani Caesar added 119 for the first wicket with both batsmen scoring 58. Williams blasted six fours and four sixes while Caesar clobbered six fours and two sixes.
MYO skipper, Zynul Ramsammy continued his superb form but missed out on his half century after being given leg before wicket to Chad Shivrattan on 49 after hitting a quartet of boundaries.
However, with the captain back in the shed, his brother, Abdul dispatched the Malteenoes bowling to all parts of the ground during his blazing innings of 112. The older Ramsammy began his innings quietly but shifted gears to the back half of the innings, smashing 10 sixes which can only be given on the straight boundaries as well as seven fours.
The bottom order also found themselves in a position to play their shots freely, allowing Krsna Singh to contribute 48 and Romel Retimiah, 40.
Wayne McPherson was the most impactful bowler, taking 3-85.
Thorne then ripped through the Malteenoes batting line up, taking 6-23 with Marlon Boele at the other end returning 3-4 as six batsmen failed to score. Veeraj Persaud (12), McPherson (10) and Brandon Butch (12) were the only batsmen to reach double figures.
In a sign of good faith and motivation for the young players, MYO president Brother Azad Ibrahim made good on the club’s promise by rewarding Abdul Ramsammy with a bat for his century and a pair of boots for Thorne after his five wicket haul.
