A Smithfield, New Amsterdam poultry farmer, accused of trafficking over 12 pounds of cocaine, was yesterday remanded to prison on a possession of narcotics charge.
The man, Trevor Edward Loo, 50, yesterday pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, when it was read to him by Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that Loo, on Friday, 16 November, had in his possession 5.631 kilogrammes (equivalent to 12.4 pounds) of cocaine.
The poultry farmer, who was remanded to prison for the offence, was represented by attorney Mursaline Bacchus. He is expected to make his next court appearance on Friday.
According to reports, the farmer was en route to Suriname when ranks in Berbice, based on information received, stopped him.
A police source had told Stabroek News that the man was at the Moleson Creek Ferry Stelling, when ranks launched a search on his vehicle, PJJ 5889, and the illegal substance, which was being stored in several packets, was discovered.
