The historic Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) ‘Ignite’ race meet came and went just as fast as some of the times laid down on the South Dakota Circuit.
With the fans, stakeholders and the competitors satisfied, the event which hosted some of the fastest built-for-speed machines in the Region, the USA and Europe was dubbed a success.
According to Vice President of GMR&SC, Hansraj Singh, the fixture which saw the debut of the Radicals racing at supersonic speeds in the 592 “was highly successful once again.”
Singh told this newspaper that “I think we were more or less happy with the activities. We had a few minor hiccups here and there like any other big event, but generally we are pleased. I think it was a highly successful one once again.”
Singh added “I think the fans were given what they were promised with the Radicals and Super Bike races. The GMR&SC VP then stated that the Radical Sr3 Caribbean Cup “will run alongside the four-leg CMRC next year” instead of just the two legs (here and Trinidad) during the run trial this year.

Trinidad won their third consecutive country title of the CMRC four-leg event with 1359 points.
Barbados managed to withstand the Guyanese pressure on home turf to finish second with 723 points, while the host finished third with 579 points after entering the final round with 196 points.
According to Silbourne Clarke, Chairman of CMRA, Jamaica won the motor cycle title ahead of Guyana.
Guyana’s Calvin Ming won two of the three Radical races, resetting the lap record during each victory but Kristian Jeffrey turned in a gutsy performance to claim victory in the other Radical showdown.
In the first win, Ming lowered Team Mohamed’s Matthew Truelove’s circuit record time of 33.3 by three thousandths of a second (33.297 seconds).
Andrew King drove off with the Group 4 title.
Team Mohamed’s Enterprise’ Matthew Truelove rode his way to the Super stock bike championship for the first time giving his team a second triumph in the racing class after an amazing season on the circuits.
Among other standout performers were Shan Seejattan clean sweeping the Group Two races; Rene Tucker leading the grid in the Street Bike races and Ronald Wortman being crowned the CMRC Group Three champion.
As customary, the first leg of the 2019 CMRC is scheduled for Trinidad in March.
