Eagles and University of Guyana [UG] Trojans, secured easy wins in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA] ‘League Championship’, on Wednesday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael streets.
Eagles soared past Vikings 66-57. The combination of Sherland Gillis and Shamar Huntley led the way for the victor with 20 and 18 points respectively.
Adding seven and six points each were Kheon Evans and Dequan Wray respectively. On the other side, Osafa Johnson and Eon Meredith top scored with 11 points apiece.
Shane Joseph was the next best scorer with 10 points, with Jeffrey Wilkinson and Mortimer Dey adding five points each.
Trailing 10-9 at the end of the first period, Eagles flew into the lead heading into the halftime interval, netting 19 points, while restricting Vikings to 14 points to end the second stanza ahead at 28-24.
Vikings marginally reduced the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring Eagles by a 16-15 score to trail 43-40 heading into the final period.
Nevertheless, Eagles clinched the victory in a clinical manner, out-hustling Vikings 23-17. Meanwhile, UG Trojans mauled Kobras 70-56. The trio of Johnathan Browne, Darroll Williams and Kadeem Peterkin tallied 11 points each, with Damani Thomas following closely on 10 points for the winner.
For the loser, Akil Hughes recorded a game high 19 points, while Justin Algu and James Lakhan contributed 16 and 11 points respectively.
