Hugh Junior, the Leopold Street man who was charged last month with the attempted murder of a rival, was freed yesterday after his accuser opted against offering evidence against him.
It is alleged that Junior, 39, on July 12th, at Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, discharged a loaded firearm at Charles Stoby with intent to murder him.
When the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the charge resumed yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown, Stoby told the court that he no longer wished to proceed with the matter.
Subsequently, Junior was discharged.
It was the police’s case that on the July 11th, Stoby went to the home of Junior’s girlfriend at about 8.30 pm after seeing them together. Stoby had also been seeing the woman. An argument subsequently ensued between the two men.
It is alleged that on July 12th, at 12.30 am, Stoby was riding his motorcycle on Leopold Street when Junior called him and then discharged two shots, hitting him to the stomach. Stoby was later rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state. He spent two weeks in the hospital before being discharged.
