President David Granger, consistent with advice from his team of specialist doctors at the Centro de Investigaciones Medico Quirugicas (CIMEQ) in Havana, Cuba, continues to take precautionary measures in light of his recent diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a statement from the Ministry of the Presidency said tonight.

Police take first innings over Everest 

Police Sports Club (PSC) ended day one of their Noble House Seafoods second division two-day semi-final match against Everest in the ascendency at PSC yesterday.   PSC who began the day by winning the toss and inserting Everest, bundled out their counterparts for 137 inside 38.4 overs.  Left-arm spinner Hemchand Persaud ended as the chief destroyer for the lawmen with excellent figures of 7 for 12 from 8.4 overs as he ran through Everest’s batting line up.

Volleyball: Castrol, Vanguard to square off in final

Castrol and Vanguard Volleyball Clubs will square off in the final of the Demerara ‘B’ division volleyball tournament today at the National Gymnasium after both clubs exercised their superiority yesterday.   Vanguard in the first match of the tournament, came from two sets down to defeat Glasgow Rangers of Linden in a thrilling encounter.   Rangers were well on their way to muster an upset by taking the first two sets 25-18, 26-26.

UN Representative urges private sector to align interests with development goals

While oil will generate revenue and key foreign investor interest, modernised agriculture, responsible mining and quality construction for key sectors will be the real drivers of Guyana’s development, according to United Nations Resident Coordinator Mikiko Tanaka, who has called on the private sector to consider aligning their business interests with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Guyana to serve on bureau for Minamata Convention conference

Guyana has been nominated to serve on the Bureau of the Conference of Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury 3 (COP 3) and Ministry of Natural Resources Project Officer Marisica Charles has been elected as one of the two Vice-Presidents from the Group of Latin America and Caribbean countries (GRULAC), the Ministry of Natural Resources has announced.
