Police Sports Club (PSC) ended day one of their Noble House Seafoods second division two-day semi-final match against Everest in the ascendency at PSC yesterday.
PSC who began the day by winning the toss and inserting Everest, bundled out their counterparts for 137 inside 38.4 overs.
Left-arm spinner Hemchand Persaud ended as the chief destroyer for the lawmen with excellent figures of 7 for 12 from 8.4 overs as he ran through Everest’s batting line up.
Persaud received support from Eon Rodrigues (1-14), Keston Hardcourt (1-21) and off-spinner Jason Heyliger (1-14), in a clinical bowling effort.
Gavin Sookdeo, coming in at number six, top scored with 37 – a knock which included four fours and two maximums while Dwayne Adams (22), Richie Looknaught (21) and Vishardeva Balgobin (21) all received starts but failed to carry on.
Meanwhile, PSC in their first innings response collected first innings honours and ended the day on 142 for four after 31 overs with a lead of five runs.
PSC’s batting effort was spearheaded by opener Andrew Lyght Jr. who cracked a brisk 69 in an innings inclusive of nine fours and a maximum. He shared in an 85 runs opening stand with Rodrigues (34). Both men and the other two wickets to fall went to former national under–17 left arm spinner Javid Rasheed who ended the day with figures of 4-70 from 17 overs, a spell which kept his side in the contest heading into the final day.
Meanwhile, the other semifinal over at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), saw Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) batting for the entire rain-affected day and ending on 211 for five against the host.
Opener Stephon Browne top-scored for MSC with a knock of 66 which included seven fours and a maximum while Clarence Baird (46) and Nkosi Barker (28), contributed to a solid batting effort. Wickets for the host went to seamers Bernard Bailey (3-50) and West Indies under–19 all-rounder Ronaldo Ali Mohammed (2-47) who shared five wickets between them.
