It was a night of walkovers, as Hopetown and Monedderlust secured wins in the 2nd Annual GT Beer 8-aside Football Championship on Friday at the All Saints ground, New Amsterdam [NA].
It was a disappointing night for the crowd that descended on the venue, as both teams secured victories without breaking a sweat.
Hopetown defeated Orealla Falcons via walkover in the first matchup, while Monedderlust FC defeated Siparuta via the identical route.
According to the officials of the event, the walkovers occurred due to transportation issues, which were unexpected.
Both teams have to travel via boat, before making a trek via bus to the venue. As such, the departure for both teams has to occur several hours before the commencement of their matches.
The officials later revealed that an issue with the boat led to both teams being unable to arrive on time for the matches.
The tournament continues today at the same venue with another doubleheader. At 19:00hrs, Mahaicony will match skills with Golden Stars, while the feature contest will pit Cougars-B against Soccer City from 20:00hrs.
