Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday once again denied bail to Abdul Imran Khan, the man charged with the recent attempted murder of a Palm Court nightclub patron.
It is alleged that Khan, 32, on October 28th, at Main Street, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Romario Baljeet.
Special prosecutor Latchmie Rahamat yesterday informed the court that she is prepared to proceed with the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the charge and she requested a date to have the statements served on the defence.
She also said that Baljeet suffered a severe seizure on Sunday and was hospitalised awaiting a CT scan. The prosecutor noted that it is suspected that Baljeet may have suffered injuries to his skull, which may be causing the severe seizures.
Attorney Glenn Hanoman, who represents the accused in association with attorney Everton Singh-Lammy, made another bail request on behalf of his client. The attorney argued that Baljeet is in the hospital by appointment. He also voiced his concern about whether the defendant would ever receive a fair trial in Guyana, given the negative publicity he has faced thus far.
The Chief Magistrate later denied Khan bail and adjourned the matter until December 10th, when it is expected to be heard by Magistrate Leron Daly.
