A Sophia youth was yesterday remanded for allegedly robbing a young woman.
It is alleged that Joshua Tracey, 19, on November 18th, 2018, at Festival City Exit, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, robbed Adinola Beaton of her cellphone, valued $76,000, and $20,000 cash.
Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts entered a not guilty plea for Tracey based on an explanation he gave to the court.
According to the police, on the day in question, Beaton was waiting at the Festival City Exit when she saw Tracey approach her, point a knife at her and relieve her of the cell phone and the money. On November 22nd, 2018, while Beaton was entering a minibus at a bus park, she saw Tracey and she raised an alarm. Tracey saw her and ran but the police caught him. He was later arrested and charged.
“I have no idea of what this young lady is talking about. I was in town and some constable saw me and they had some firearm and arrested me saying I robbed her,” Tracey said.
Tracey, who is a father of one, was remanded to prison until January 11th, 2019, when his next hearing is slated.
