The Ministry of Public Security (MoPS) in a release yesterday said that the 2 am closing time for night clubs and other places of entertainment will continue to be enforced.
The 2 am closing time is provided for in the Music and Dancing Licences (Amendment) Act Chapter 23:03, Act #12 of 1982.
According to the MoPS press release, the Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan has determined that the enforcement of this regulation is in the best interest of the country after taking into account the effects of alcohol consumption on crime and violence.
This includes domestic violence, traffic accidents, and the “unproductive capacities” of the population the day after, along with other attendant circumstances, including the adverse effects of the proliferation of noise nuisance.
The MoPS therefore wishes to remind the general public that this law is being enforced in the interest of citizens’ security and safety with the aim of suppressing criminal and other offences.
The public is being urged to lend its full support.
