Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after they were accused of breaking into two homes and stealing over $400,000 in cash and other items.
Rocky Harvey, 21, and Levy Hughes, 27, were faced with the charges when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
It is alleged that between November 27th and November 28th, at La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, they broke and entered the home of Shaundel Chichester and stole a $160,000 iPhone, an $80,000 Amazon tablet, a $20,000 ZTE phone, a $36,000 pair of gold earrings, a $30,000 gold chain, US$1, $4,300 in cash, and other articles, with the total value of the stolen articles being $334,800.
Another charge laid against Harvey and Hughes stated that on November 28th, at Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara, they broke and entered the home of Ayanna Isaacs and stole a computer and charger valued $75,000, $25,000 in cash, a Guyana passport and other articles, with the total value of the stolen goods being $113,200.
The final charge against the two men stated that on the same date they broke into the home of Isaacs and stole a Samsung phone, valued $35,000, which was the property of Jamal Bristol.
Both Harvey, a miner, of 97 Sara Lodge, West Coast Demerara, and Hughes, a labourer, of 119 Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, denied the allegations leveled against them.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted to the two men, whom he said were found with all the items mentioned in the charges after they were intercepted in a car at the Demerara Harbour Bridge on November 28th. He added that the items were identified by the complainants in the matter.
The magistrate subsequently remanded both men to prison and the matter was adjourned until December 13th, when it is to be called at the Wales Magistrate’s Court.
