A Plaisance, East Coast Demerara mother of three was yesterday taken into police custody after she allegedly stabbed her reputed husband resulting in his death.
Dead is Victor Roberts, 38, of Lot 41 Prince William Street, Plaisance. According to reports, Roberts and his reputed wife would argue frequently and shared an abusive relationship with the police being regular visitors to their home.
At around 11:30am yesterday, the duo were engaged in a heated argument, which came as no surprise, according to their neighbours. Stabroek News was told that a fight ensued and the woman, who has one child with the now deceased man, reportedly broke everything in their shop, located at the bottom flat of the building. According to the reports, this caused Roberts to jump on his bicycle and ride to the police station to file a report.
Stabroek News was told that about half an hour later, the woman continued to shout and to break items in the shop. Within that timeframe, Roberts returned to the home and the argument continued. Shortly after, the man reportedly picked up a piece of a pipe and chased his reputed wife, who was able to run behind a gate. She reportedly sustained a hit to the head.
As the two continued to scuffle, Roberts allegedly picked up a knife and attempted to attack his wife as she ran up the stairs. At some point, the woman reportedly got hold of the knife and stabbed Roberts to his chest, causing him to fall.
Stabroek News learnt that after Roberts fell to the ground, the woman got water and attempted to wash away the blood in the area. She reportedly attempted to revive him, sapping his face with methylated spirits, before using a cloth and attempting to stop the bleeding.
The ambulance was later summoned and took 10 minutes to arrive on the scene. Roberts was whisked away to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Sources revealed that the couple was told to leave each other on many occasions but they remained together.
Roberts’ body is at the GPH mortuary awaiting an autopsy. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
