A tyre repairman who allegedly pulled a firearm on a police officer, was yesterday remanded for allegedly having an unlicensed gun in his possession.
Khayyam Ahmad, 35, on December 1, 2018, allegedly had in his possession a .32 pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Ahmad pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
According to the police prosecutor, on the said date, a police officer went to a tyre shop in South Road to have a tyre changed. It was stated that Ahmad and the officer began to argue, following which the accused reportedly went into the shop, picked up a gun and pointed it at the officer.
It was further claimed that after a bystander told Ahmad that the person he was confronting was an officer, the man ran back into the shop and hid the gun. He was later arrested and charged.
Ahmad was remanded to prison and told to return to court on December 19 for his next hearing.
