Santos FC and the Guyana Police Force [GPF] will represent the district at the GFF Super-16 Championship, following victories in the GFA Year-end Football Qualifiers.
Staged at the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora, the Guyana Police Force [GPF] arrested Georgetown Football Club [GFC] by a 2-0 scoreline. Dexroy Adams was the difference on the night, as he recorded a brace.
With the first half unable to separate the two teams, Adams broke the deadlock, as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 59th minute.
The goal seemed to inspire the Bourda-based GFC outfit, who began to throw bodies forward desperately looking for the equaliser.
However, staunch defending led by the towering Steffon Ramsay, thwarted the offensive effort of GFC.
The deserved win was then sealed, as Adams made his presence felt once more, finding the back of the net in the 89th minute to break GFC hearts.
On the other hand, Santos edged newcomer GT Panthers by a 1-0 scoreline. Following a scoreless first half, unlikely hero Robbie McGloggan separated the two teams’ compliments of a 77th minute strike.
The newcomer to the Georgetown district, who are littered with experience players such as Gerald Gittens and Elroy Parks battled to fashion an equaliser.
However, they were unable to keep their hopes alive of securing a place in the federation’s national tournament, as Santos held firm to clinch the hard-fought contest.
