A 26-year-old man died in an accident along the Nonpareil Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), after being struck by a minibus yesterday afternoon.
Dead is David Aulder, 26, of Lot 254 Section ‘A’ Nonpareil, who was riding a motorcycle at a fast rate at the time.
A breathalyser test performed on the 66-year-old-driver of the minibus found that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He was subsequently taken into police custody.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 3.30 pm.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the minibus, BRR 9843, driven by a resident of Mon Repos Pasture, was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the Nonpareil Public Road, while Aulder, who was the rider of CJ 193, was proceeding north along the Coldingen Access Road.
The police said at the time Aulder was travelling at a fast rate.
As he approached the intersection of the Nonpareil Public Road and the Coldingen Access Road, police said Aulder failed to stop and turned east. He proceeded along the southern side of the public road against the one way and collided with front left side of the bus, police explained.
From the impact of the collision, Aulder lost control and fell on to the roadway, resulting in severe injuries. He was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited persons and rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
