(JAMAICA GLEANER) The Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica was the centre of all activity — as far as reggae music lovers are concerned — moments ago, as dancehall-turned reggae superstar Mark ‘Buju Banton’ Myrie touched down after spending eight years imprisoned in the United States.

Guyana continues dominance

-as Allicock, McKenzie, Niles, Farley win on night two Guyana’s dominance of the Caribbean Boxing Championships (CBC) continued last night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and the locals are poised to regain the coveted country trophy.

 The Caribbean team will also compete in a One-Day International tri-series with Ireland in Bangladesh.

Barnwell, Nedd, Beaton win major DCC awards 

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) on Wednesday evening hosted a year-end award, the first under President Roger Harper’s current tenure to reward its players for stellar performance this year.   DCC in 2018 copped titles in nearly every youth and senior division as the Club continues to assert its dominance in the City.   Winning the ‘Clive Lloyd player of the year awards’ were Skipper Christopher Barnwell, Ashmead Nedd, Nkosi Beaton, Sachin Singh and Jonathan Van Lange (under 13 and 15).

Hockey teams considering tour of Canada next year

Guyana’s male and female hockey teams are tentatively scheduled to visit Canada in 2019, a move which will ensure the continuity of the sport’s development in Guyana.   This disclosure was made by President of the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB), Philip Fernandes at the conclusion of this year’s Diamond Mineral Water Indoor Hockey Festival Sunday last.   “This is our last event (Diamond Mineral Water Indoor Hockey Festival) for 2018 and going into next year, we’ve been invited by Canada to bring a men’s and women’s senior indoor hockey national teams to compete against Canada and Belarus on the women’s side and on the men’s side, it’s against Canada and Russia in tri-nation tournament so the focus now is on that to see if we can get it done,” Fernandes explained.

Dear Editor, After a recent investment of Seven million Guyanese taxpayers’ dollars to purchase Law Enforcement Sound Level Meters, the Police must now aggressively monitor both police-owned and civilian owned “boom buses”, and other perpetrators of noise nuisance offences, so that every Guyanese can enjoy our constitutional right to personal liberty, public safety and good health.
