(Trinidad Guardian) Two men will appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate on Monday, charged with kidnapping UWI employee Maria Dass-Supersad.
Although Dass-Supersad, 26, was kidnapped on November 28 the charges were only brought against Ricardo Felix and Keon Phillips on December 7 following instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC.
A release by the TTPS confirmed the men had been jointly charged with kidnapping for a ransom and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Felix is a 21-year-old labourer of Saddle Road, Maraval, while Phillips is a 35-year-old plumber of Clarence Trace, Valencia.
The charges were laid by Sgt Thomas of the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department.
Dass-Supersad was rescued by police five hours after two men forced her into a car as she was leaving the University of the West Indies St Augustine Campus.
She was found unharmed in a car driven by her kidnappers along the Caura Road around 8.30 pm on November 28.
When the kidnappers were held, one was found wearing a police bulletproof vest while the other was in camouflage wear.
