Guyana recaptures Caribbean boxing crown

The largest crowd for an amateur boxing event in recent memory showed up at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall last night to witness the finale of the Caribbean Boxing Championships and the local pugilists did not disappoint.

Ali’s sensational innings fails to push UG pass MYO

A superb innings of 161 from Ershaad Ali failed to propel the University of Guyana (UG) past host, Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) in the latest round of the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division 40 overs tournament, yesterday.   UG, chasing 344 for victory, were dismissed for 292 in the 37th over to hand MYO a 41-run win; their fifth in a row.  The chase, however, was full of fireworks mainly off Ali’s bat.

Dear Editor, The refusal to offer an apology or at least a withdrawal of the claim in view of proof presented and no sanctions, not even a reprimand from the one in charge of proceedings within the hallowed Chamber, is a clear sign of the level of autocracy the country has descended to.
