Plaisance Guardians and University of Guyana [UG] Trojans, secured wins in the U23 section, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA] ‘League Championship’ continued on Saturday.
Staged at the Burnham Court, Carmichael and Middle Streets, Plaisance Guardians grounded Eagles 84-78.
The trident of Andrew Johnson, Terrence Daniels and Delroy Critchlow tallied 19, 18 and 12 points respectively in the victory. Adding nine points each were Hillman Bovell and Akeem Crandon.
For the loser, Sherland Gillis and Shamar Huntley battled to 25 and 24 points respectively. Adding 10 and eight points apiece were Somesh Dhanram and Diquan Wray.
Locked 20-20 at the end of the first period, Guardians seized the advantage heading into the halftime interval, outscoring their opponent 21-17 to lead 41-37.
Guardians then strengthened their grip on the contest, tallying 23 points, while restricting Eagles to 13 point to lead 64-50 at the end of the third stanza.
With the contest firmly in their control, Guardians were out-hustled in the final period by a 28-24 score. On the other hand, UG Trojans needled Pacesetters 76-73.
Kadeem Peterkin and Damani Thomas led the Trojans with 12 points each, while Denzil Ross, Darrol Williams and Jabari Joseph recorded 10, nine and eight points respectively.
Troy David and Zion Gray top scored for the losers with 16 points each, while George Yearwood and Jude Corlette netted 13 and 12 points correspondingly.
Trailing 17-16 at the end of the first period, Trojans raced into the lead in the second period, outscoring the home side 23-13 to head into the halftime break at 39-30.
Trojans extended their advantage in the pivotal third quarter, outscoring Pacesetters 21-19 to head into the final quarter at 60-49.
The UG outfit then survived an attempted comeback in the dying stages to secure the win, as they were out-shot 24-16. On Thursday at the same venue, Pacesetters defeated Kobras 75-51 while Guardians edged Sonics 63-60.
