University of Guyana [UG] Trojans and Pacesetters secured wins in the U23 Division, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA] ‘League Championship’, continued on Sunday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael streets.
The Turkeyen-based institution schooled Plaisance Guardians 79-62. Jonathan Browne top scored with 18 points. He was closely followed by Kadeem Peterkin on 17 points.
The trio of Jabari Joseph, Cubator Stephen and Denzil Ross chipped in with eight, eight and seven points respectively.
For the loser, Nigel Bowen and Terrence Daniels netted 13 and 12 points apiece, while Delroy Critchlow and Hillman Bovell supported with seven and six points each.
It was a clinical performance from the Trojans who dictated proceedings from the opening whistle. The UG lads set the tone of the matchup with a 14-9 lead at the end of the first stanza.
Guardians marginally reduced the deficit in what would be a competitive second period, outscoring Trojans 16-15 to trail 29-25 heading into the halftime interval.
However, the second half of the match was all about the Trojans offence, which outshot Guardians 21-16 to seize control at 50-41 heading into the final quarter.
The contest was then sealed in the fourth quarter, as Trojans massed an impressive 29 points, while restricting their opponent to 21 points.
Meanwhile, Pacesetters dismissed Eagles 72-41. Quincy Dos Santos top scored with 15 points, while Zion Gray, Kwesi Roberts and Jude Corlette assisted with 12, 10 and 10 points respectively.
On the other side, Sherland Gillis battled to 15 points, with Somesh Dhanram and Shamar Huntley the next best scorers on eight and seven points respectively.
