Prosecution closes case in Parika 100-pound drug bust trial

The prosecution yesterday closed its case against the five men accused of trafficking over 100 pounds of cocaine and cannabis at Parika, East Bank Essequibo earlier this year.  Khemraj Lall, 39; Marlon Lawrence, 36; Rajendra Persaud, 47; Cleve Thornhill, and Doodnauth Chattergoon, 36, are charged with trafficking 13.8 kilogrammes (equivalent to 30 pounds) of cocaine  and 35 kilogrammes (77 pounds) of cannabis on June 6, at Parika.

Germans Restaurant on board with Futsal Festival

Germans Restaurant became the latest entity to throw its support behind the Kashif and Shanghai-co-ordinated ExxonMobil International Futsal Festival, donating a cheque for an undisclosed sum yesterday at the entity’s location.  Clinton Urling, Proprietor of the establishment stated that his contribution aligns with his social responsibility, adding, “sports reaches a wide cross-section of youths and fans over all, and here at Germans, we use any opportunity we get.”  According to Urling, one of the main reasons for his involvement in the event is due to the Kashif and Shanghai Organization’s participation, adding that he is envisioning a successful tournament which will continue in the following year.  

Canada warns U.S. not to politicize extradition cases

OTTAWA,  (Reuters) – Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland yesterday  warned the United States not to politicize extradition cases, a day after President Donald Trump said he could intervene in the affair of a Chinese executive detained in Canada at Washington’s request.
