An 11-month-old baby of Cane Grove reportedly drowned on Monday morning while he was in the care of his mother.
The now-deceased infant has been identified as Alvin Matthew, of Lot 47 Sayah Village, Cane Grove, Mahaica.
Stabroek News gathered that at about 11 am, the infant was in the lower flat of the family’s home with his mother and siblings.
The mother, after observing the place to be quiet, launched a search for the infant. With the aid of her other children, they searched the perimeter of their home. The baby was sometime later found with his face down in a drain next to their house.
The family suspects that the child crept out of the house and fell into the drain.
After he was recovered from the trench, the family rushed him to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
An autopsy will be conducted later this week.
