(Field Level Media) Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens announced yesterday that forward Al Horford will miss at least three games due to patellofemoral pain syndrome in his left knee.
“He’s going to be out a little bit, but not too long,” Stevens said. “Just to strengthen him and get him feeling a lot better — a little bit similar to (Marcus) Morris last year — and make sure that he feels great instead of going in and out like this.”
Horford had sat out the last two games before Wednesday’s decision.
“I don’t want to have to keep dealing with this and have a question mark game after game,” Horford told reporters Tuesday, noting he’s been dealing with inflammation in the knee for almost a month. “I just have to listen to the training staff and what the doctors are telling me. I’ve got to buy into that.”
Boston plays three games over the next four days, starting with tonight’s matchup against the Wizards in D.C., before a hitting three-day break in its schedule.
In 22 games this season, Horford is averaging 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 34.1 percent from the 3-point range. He last played Dec. 6 in the Celtics’ 128-100 win over the New York Knicks where he scored 19 points and notched 12 rebounds.
