Dear Editor,
On or about the 27th September, 2018, the almost new John Deere Tractor and Trailer owned by the Good Hope Pomona Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), was left within the compound of the Aurora Secondary School at Pomona Village on the Essequibo Coast, Region # 2, and that was on the advice and instruction of the Chairman of the NDC.
The compound is secured by a reputable security firm, by a number of security guards on a twenty-four-hour basis, and they would have a hand over/take over system at the changing of guards, which we all know must be recorded in the diary that would mention each and every item, and its condition and in the case of a tractor, parts and accessories.
My understanding is that at the handing over one morning the battery, valued at about thirty or at maximum forty thousand dollars was discovered missing. As expected a report was made at the Aurora Police Station, and the Police began their investigations. How intensive these investigations and interrogations were, I am not sure, but the battery at the time of writing has not been recovered, and the tractor and trailer are there parked. I would not be able to say if the NDC is unable or unwilling to buy a battery, but the same work the equipment (Tractor and Trailer) was doing the authorities have hired a Tractor and Trailer to do same, causing taxpayers about three times the amount of money per day, had the council purchased a battery for tis trailer.
I spoke with the Overseer of the NDC who is saying that she was on leave during the period the battery was stolen and was not at the NDC Statutory meeting. I spoke to the representative of the constituency and a few other councillors and those councillors seem tightlipped.
If this is not a form of corruption, then what else is? This is certainly a way of putting money in the pockets of friends, relatives and cronies at the expense of the taxpayers.
Yours faithfully,
Archie W. Cordis
