A Grove, East Bank Demerara construction worker is now hospitalised after he was shot on Saturday night during police efforts to arrest him.
The man, who was on the police’s radar, sustained two gunshot wounds and is presently receiving medical attention under guard at the George-town Public Hospital.
Police said that at around 5:30pm on Saturday, ranks went to the Back Street, Grove home of the 39-year-old construction worker. During a search of the premises, they found two illegal handguns and ten rounds of live ammunition.
Subsequent to the discovery, police said, the suspect was arrested but attempted to disarm the ranks. In his frantic bid to escape, the suspect was shot twice. The police said a female who was found at the suspect’s home was also arrested.
