Jagdeo urges gov’t MPs to vote their conscience on no-confidence motion

With Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo urging government MPs to vote their conscience, a parliamentary showdown on the PPP/C’s motion of no-confidence is set as scheduled for Friday as PM Moses Nagamootoo has rejected a suggestion that it be deferred to early next year.  “There are many of them that express displeasure about the state of affairs within that camp and about the policies they are pursuing…[We hope]  that some of them will grow a conscience and translate what they say privately into a vote and we hope that that will happen because it wouldn’t mean an act of betrayal, it would be an act of patriotism,” Jagdeo said, noting that given its public statements, the coalition appears to be in a state of panic.

PPP/C presidential candidate to be picked before year end

Assuring that the PPP/C’s presidential candidate for the 2020 general elections will be named before year end, the party’s leader Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday said that criminal charges will have no impact on the selection process.  “This (the candidate) will be decided shortly…we could very well be going to elections in three months,” he said in response to questions during a press conference at his Church Street office.

Ninvalle wins ‘B’ class final

Kaysan Ninvalle, one of Guyana’s most promising table tennis prospects, closed out 2018 on a winning note, soaring to championship glory in the ‘B’ class Open category of  the Titans Table Tennis Club ‘Play to Conquer’ junior tournament yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).   Ninvalle in the ‘B’ class final came from behind and cop a measure of revenge from  Terrence Rausch who defeated him in the semi-finals of the under – 18 category, to take the title 3-2 in a combative contest.   The first set went to Ninvalle 14-12 before Rausch took the next two sets 11-8, 11-9 to claim a 2-1 lead.

CBS fires CEO Leslie Moonves and denies $120 million severance

(Reuters) – CBS Corp said yesterday it has fired Leslie Moonves for cause and has denied a $120 million severance package as it girds for a likely legal battle with its former chief executive who has been accused of sexual harassment and assault that allegedly took place before and after he joined the company.
