A man was stabbed to death sometime between Sunday night and yesterday morning by his drinking partner at Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast.
The death of 23-year-old Sherwin Melville, a father of one, has sent shockwaves across the serene indigenous community.
Police Commander of G Division (Essequibo Coast) Khali Pareshram yesterday told Stabroek News that police were summoned to the village after a relative of Melville discovered his lifeless body.
The discovery, Pareshram said was made at around 5 am by Melville’s sister-in-law while she was on her way to use the washroom.
It was related that the now deceased man and an individual were drinking at his Capoey Lake home on Sunday night. They were left consuming alcohol and the family retired to bed. It is suspected that during the course of the night an argument ensued between the two during which Melville was fatally stabbed. He suffered a wound to his neck.
The suspect, a 19-year-old is currently on the run. The suspect, the commander explained was a visitor to the indigenous community.
The deceased was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
